Salford City Youngster Makes Promotion Claim

Salford City‘s Kylian Kouassi believes that his side could still gain promotion to League One ahead of their trip to Port Vale.

The Ammies have been a much more competitive force in their first full season under Karl Robinson and are still firmly in the playoff mix ahead of their clash against the sixth-placed Valiants.

“We’ve Got To Do Better”

City came undone in their last game against AFC Wimbledon, with the London club securing a 1-0 win in the second half and keeping them out of the top seven ahead of this week’s action. however, Salford could return to those places should they win and Crewe Alexandra lose to Barrow.

Speaking to the club’s official podcast ahead of their trip to Staffordshire, Blackpool loanee Kouassi said that the club could still achieve promotion this season. He said:

“I am looking forward to the game on Saturday, it will be a big game. You want to be playing one of the good teams, you want to go and challenge yourself, and we feel like as a team we could and will get promoted, but it has to start with picking up the wins, and from training.

“In every training session we’ve got to set a standard; the intensity has got to go up, the standard has to go up, so we’ve got to do better.

“The result on Saturday was disappointing, but we can’t keep looking back on the past, we’ve got to keep going and hopefully Port Vale is a game we can go on and win.”

Salford City are still contenders within the play-off and even the automatic promotion races right now and this will be a crucial game to see if they can challenge for a top-three place. The club may not have been as strong as they were during their winning run in December, but are still a formidable opponent and Karl Robinson is a well-drilled coach at this level. Port Vale are unbeaten in seven games and have only lost twice at Vale Park this season, meaning The Ammies will need to be at the top of their game to get a win in this clash.
