Birmingham City head coach Chris Davies has confirmed that winger Scott Wright and striker Lyndon Dykes have suffered significant injuries, ruling them out of upcoming fixtures, including the trip to Wembley.
Wright has been sidelined for the rest of the season after sustaining a severe knee injury in the 0-0 draw against Reading. Dykes, who pulled up with a calf issue during the same game, is also expected to be out for several months, making his return before the campaign’s conclusion unlikely.
“Sadly Scott Wright is a longer-term knee injury, which is a real blow,” Davies told BirminghamLive. “I’m sorry for Scott that that’s happened because he has had some big moments for us this season.”
The severity of their injuries became clear when neither player was included in the squad for Birmingham’s 2-0 victory over Leyton Orient on Tuesday night. Goals from Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Ethan Laird secured the win, but the absence of Wright and Dykes was a concern.
Impact on Birmingham’s Season
The loss of two key attacking players comes at a crucial stage for Birmingham City. Wright has been an influential figure in the squad, while Dykes has played an essential role in leading the line.
With their trip to Wembley approaching and a push for promotion still on the cards, Davies will need to rely on squad depth to maintain the team’s momentum. However, the manager hinted that Dykes may still have a chance of returning before the season ends.
“Hopefully we can see him before the end of this season,” Davies added. “I don’t know whether the cup final might come too soon, but even after that, we still have five league games left.”

What’s Next for Birmingham?
In addition to Wright and Dykes, Birmingham were also without winger Keshi Anderson in their last match due to a hamstring strain. Fortunately, his absence is expected to be short-term, with a return anticipated within a couple of weeks.
As the Blues prepare for a crucial period in their campaign, Davies will have to adapt his attacking setup to compensate for the missing players.
Writer’s View

Davies will have to find a solution quickly to ensure Birmingham remains competitive in the crucial matches ahead, especially with a trip to Wembley looming.
