Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has provided a timeline for Jayden Danns’ potential debut, estimating that the Liverpool loanee could be available for selection in about a month.
The young striker joined SAFC on transfer deadline day but has been sidelined with a back injury, delaying his integration into the squad.
Waiting for Danns’ Arrival
Despite high expectations surrounding Danns’ arrival, his debut for the Black Cats has been postponed as he continues his rehabilitation at Liverpool. Le Bris acknowledged the challenges of keeping him connected with the team while he recovers but remains hopeful for his return.
“We are trying to build a connection with Jayden and the team. Of course, it is not easy while he is injured, and we don’t know how long (before he returns), so we try to keep the connection and then we will see, maybe in one month he will be available. We have to see,” said Le Bris.
He also confirmed that despite being at Liverpool for treatment, Sunderland are maintaining close contact to ensure a smooth transition once he is fit.

Patience is Key
Sunderland fans will have to wait before seeing Danns in action, but the club is taking a cautious approach to ensure he is fully fit before making his debut. Joining a new team mid-season can be tough, especially when dealing with an injury setback. Rushing him back too soon could risk further issues, potentially cutting his loan spell short before he even gets started.
While his absence is frustrating, the hope is that Danns will make an impact once fit and provide additional firepower in Sunderland’s promotion push.
Transfer Frustrations and Squad Depth
Sunderland had a relatively quiet January transfer window, with Enzo Le Fee impressing and Wilson Isidor arriving on a permanent deal. However, many fans feel that additional reinforcements were needed, especially in comparison to promotion rivals like Leeds United, Burnley, and Sheffield United, who have deeper squads.
The team has struggled to maintain momentum in recent weeks, and their top-two ambitions are now under threat. While Danns’ return will offer another attacking option, Sunderland may need to look at further strengthening in the future to keep pace with the competition.
Writer’s View
The delay to Danns’ Sunderland debut is frustrating, but it’s crucial that the club takes a long-term approach to his recovery. With promotion hopes hanging in the balance, squad depth remains a concern. While the January window was underwhelming, SAFC must now make the most of their current options. Danns’ return could be vital, but the club needs to ensure he is fully fit to contribute when the time comes.
