Former Premier League Star Linked With Blackburn Rovers Vacancy

Blackburn Rovers are expected to hold talks with former Arsenal and West Ham player Luis Boa Morte to fill their managerial vacancy.

The Lancashire side are in the hunt for a new manager after the departure of John Eustace to Derby County last week. The club have been in the hands of caretaker boss David Lowe for their past two games, beating both West Bromwich Albion and Plymouth Argyle.

Rovers Hold Talks With Boa Morte

According to journalist Jordan Davies in a national newspaper and corroborated in the Daily Mail, Blackburn are ‘set to hold talks’ with the hierarchy at Ewood Park in the near future. The former midfielder had previously been a coach under Marco Silva at former club Fulham, but is currently in charge of the Guinea-Bissau national team.

He has limited experience in charge within club football, with his only role to date being in Portugal for fourth-tier Sintrense back in 2017. It is not the first time that Boa Morte has been linked with a Championship role, having been named as a potential candidate for the Coventry City role following the sacking of Mark Robins in November.

The report within the mail has also named George Boateng as a potential option, having left The Sky Blues when Frank Lampard was appointed and has previously coached within the youth setup at Blackburn. Steven Gerrard has also been linked, following his departure from Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq.

With their position in the Championship likely secured for next season, it could be a good time for the club to target an inexperienced but promising manager like Luis Boa Morte. Whilst the club will want to keep their play-off push on track, they do have plenty of breathing room to develop and any incoming manager will be able to properly assess the team prior to the summer transfer window. Boa Morte was a leading figure with Fulham and now should be the time to take a big leap in club management for the former Arsenal player.
