Blackpool Boss Provides Double Fitness Update

Steve Bruce has said that Niall Ennis is wanting to ‘give training a go’ ahead of Blackpool‘s clash with Mansfield Town this weekend.

The striker joined The Seasiders on loan from Stoke City in the final moments of the January window and has played three times for the club so far, scoring on debut against Charlton Athletic.

Two Concerns Updated

Bruce spoke to the Blackpool Gazette ahead of their game against Mansfield Town and gave the latest news on both Ennis and Olly Casey, who was forced off of the field in The Tangerine’s most recent game, a 0-0 draw with Rotherham United. He said:

“We’ve got a couple who are having a couple of tests, they’re both scheduled to come out and train, so we’ll see how they are and we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

“Niall Ennis has hurt his back, so we’ll see how he is this morning. He’s the main one. He wants to give training a go, so we’ll see if he’s right or if he’ll have a reaction later on.

“We were fearing the worst for Olly Casey because it takes something for him to go off, but it was a kick around his ankle area, so we think he’s okay. He hasn’t been on the grass yet.

“We think Josh Onomah will be okay as well.”

Blackpool are unbeaten in their last nine games but have only managed two wins in that time frame. They are playing League One’s worst team in terms of recent form with Mansfield losing their last seven matches in a row.

Writer’s View

Blackpool have lacked some attacking impetus in their last two games against Burton Albion and Rotherham, so having Niall Ennis available for this game against Mansfield could be the key to their success. He may have struggled in those games but Mansfield are in very poor form right now and it is a game where The Seasiders’ attackers can definitely find some form to carry into their next set of games. With Olly Casey’s injury still in the air they might not have a full squad to pick from but Steve Bruce seems hopeful that all his players with fitness issues will be available.
