Blackpool manager Steve Bruce has confirmed the club are ‘close to one or two things’ ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
The Seasiders have been in decent form as of late and are unbeaten in their last six League One outings, winning their last two. The latter of these arrived last night when Ashley Fletcher and Olly Casey helped secure a 2-0 win over Lincoln City at the LNER Stadium.
It was a pleasing performance from Bruce’s team. Although they were arguably second best throughout the contest, they defended resiliently whilst taking their chances to earn the three points.
This has seen them maintain their spot in 13th, but they will still harbour outside ambitions of reaching the play-offs. They are currently seven points behind sixth-placed Leyton Orient.
Bruce Hoping For More Additions
Blackpool have made two signings this month, bringing in Sammy Silvera from Middlesbrough and Tom Bloxham from Shrewsbury Ton. The latter has already shown his worth and was a constant attacking threat against the Imps last night.
Bruce is keen to bring in more new recruits, although has admitted he won’t add to his squad for the sake of it. Speaking after the game, via The Blackpool Gazette, he said:
“We’ve let six go, which needed to be done, but we’re looking, and I think we’ll actively do something – we’re close to one or two things, so let’s see what develops and you’ll have to be patient.
“There’s always something cooking. I’ve said it many times, I’ll only act if I think someone can improve us. I can get 25 players, that’s the easy part, but it’s the ones that make the difference, and that’s what we’re on the look-out for. If they become available then we’ll see what we can do.
“I’m pleased with what I’ve got at the moment, but there’s always someone that can give everyone a lift. The two who have come in this window have done that, especially Tom (Bloxham).”
Writer’s View
Blackpool’s recent form suggests they aren’t far away from knocking on the door of the top six. They are playing catch up thanks to their poor first half of the campaign, but there is still a long way to go this season. Bruce must be praised for his approach to the transfer window. He hasn’t panicked and only brought in two players who will improve his squad. His latest comments suggest that will be the case for the remaining few days of transfer activity, but their displays against Lincoln and Exeter City show that he already has a capable bunch at his disposal.
