Major Coventry City Squad Decision Revealed

Frank Lampard is in line to give Matt Grimes his first Coventry City start on Tuesday night against Queens Park Rangers, according to Coventry Live.

The midfielder was signed by The Sky Blues in the final stages of the winter transfer window from Swansea City, where he had played for the past seven seasons. He was given his first minutes last midweek as City were bested by Leeds United, with the 29-year-old playing 28 minutes.

“A Really Positive Bounce”

Grimes missed the Coventry squad against Ipswich Town this weekend completely due to being cup-tied with Swansea, but it does allow for him to be fresh for the visit of the London side to the West Midlands. Coventry Live have now reported that the former Northampton Town man will be making his full debut on the night.

Former Derby County boss Lampard has also spoken on his immediate impact within The Sky Blues squad, telling the press:

“He’s settled in really well, It is difficult. I remember doing it at the back end of my career, going to Man City and I was 35/36 and I found it challenging in a new dressing room in those early days. But the beauty of Matt is probably, A; he knows some players and has played with them and has some friends in the group already, and B; he’s a very chatty and amiable character and he’s integrated straight away.

“He’s easy to talk to and he’s come here with a really positive bounce; says the right things, wants to come here and be part of something. So that’s been really good, which has made it a really easy settling in process, and I think he already feels very comfortable, I hope.”

Writer’s View

It was likely going to happen that one of Coventry City’s existing midfielders would make way for Matt Grimes. With Jack Rudoni and Victor Torp effective assets going forward, it would be expected that Jamie Allen will be replaced for this game against QPR. However, with this chance does now mean the former Swansea man has to deliver consistently to keep his place as players like Allen, Josh Eccles and Ben Sheaf will all want to be in the side. Frank Lampard will have a real selection issue on his hands soon but having such quality depth is never a negative.
