Chesterfield chief Ashley Kirk has said he hopes the club can tie down star man Armando Dobra to a new deal after retaining his services in January.
The Albanian was subject to interest from League One’s Stockport County in the transfer window, with a move failing to materialise after The Hatters could not gather the finances to secure a deal. BBC Radio Sheffield’s Andy Giddings reported on the links at the end of January, with other unnamed third-tier sides also interested in a move.
“We Are Working Hard”
Dobra joined The Spirites in 2022 and has played 116 times for the club since then, including 29 appearances in their National League title-clinching season and scoring in their play-off final loss to Notts County the season prior. He is under contract at the club for the next eighteen months, but following the close shave in this window, Chesterfield are looking to get a new deal over the line.
Speaking to the club’s official podcast, director Ashley Kirk revealed that Paul Cook’s side wanted to renew Dobra’s deal. They said (Quotes via Derbyshire Times):
“Obviously we recognise that he is one of the main assets we have on the pitch, he has been fantastic for us this season. When he is on the pitch you know you are going to get 100%.
Our job now is try to secure Armando’s future here for the long term and keep him as happy as we possibly can. We will keep everyone posted, but that is the plan. Chesterfield is a happy home, I think, (for him) and we are working hard to continue to make it that.”

Writer’s View
Armando Dobra has been a standout for the club over the past three years and unsurprisingly the club want to continue what has been a great relationship so far. He has easily bridged the transition between League Two and non-league with 12 goals and assists, and with plenty of games still to go, he is likely to extend his contributions. It feels like this will be a very straightforward deal to complete and Chesterfield will secure their attacking midfielder at the club for the next few years at least.
