Swansea City have emerged as frontrunners in the pursuit of AaB Fodbold midfielder Melker Widell.
The Welsh club has reportedly made a substantial offer in their bid to secure the services of the talented 22-year-old before the January transfer window closes.
£3.65m Bid Highlights Swansea’s Determination
According to Sweden’s Sportbladet, Swansea City have submitted a bid worth SEK 50m (£3.65m) including bonuses. This offer underlines the club’s serious intentions to bring Widell to the Championship as Luke Williams looks to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season.
AaB Fodbold, the Danish club where Widell currently plays, has confirmed ongoing negotiations with a foreign club regarding the midfielder’s sale. Although the club has not explicitly named Swansea, reports suggest they are leading the race for the Swedish star’s signature.
Widell’s Career So Far
Widell, who joined AaB in July 2023 on a three-year deal, has been a key player for the Danish side this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions. Known for his versatility, the Swedish international can operate both as a central midfielder and as a winger, making him a valuable asset for any team.
Prior to his move to Denmark, Widell developed his skills in the youth system of Malmö FF. His talent has also been recognised on the international stage, where he made his debut for Sweden’s U21 side in November 2023, playing a full match during their 3-0 win over Finland U21s.

Swansea, currently 17th in the table and ten points off the top six, are seemingly planning for next season already, but perhaps do have to still stave off the threat of relegation, with seven points the difference between them and Derby County in 22nd.
