Bradford City Man Man Refutes Andy Cook Comparison

Bradford City striker Calum Kavanagh is relishing his role in the team’s attack as they prepare for a crucial League Two home fixture against bottom-side Morecambe.

Kavanagh has stepped up in the absence of Andy Cook, who is out for the season, and has quickly made an impact with two goals and an assist in the Bantams’ last three wins.

Finding His Stride in a Central Role

The 20-year-old forward has been instrumental in Bradford’s recent successes, using his versatility and high work rate to adapt to the physical demands of leading the line. Reflecting on his performances, Kavanagh said:

“It’s my favourite position and I think it’s where I’m best. I feel quite versatile in terms that I can go long, come short and be a nuisance to defenders. I don’t really look at it as it’s my responsibility, I just try to play my own game.”

In Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Walsall, Kavanagh provided the assist for Antoni Sarcevic’s opening goal, highlighting his ability to disrupt defences and contribute creatively. .

Adapting to Life Without Cook

With Cook sidelined, Bradford have adjusted their style of play, relying on Kavanagh’s mobility and pressing to trouble opposing defences. The Irish striker acknowledged the challenge of replacing Cook but is focused on being his own player:

“Andy’s a big miss. I’ve gone in there and said a few times that I’m trying to be myself and not Andy Cook. The boys know that I’m obviously a different player so we’re playing a bit different to what we usually do. That probably helps my game and it’s working for the team at the minute.”

Cook, who has been pivotal for Bradford with his early-season goals, continues to support the squad off the pitch, texting encouragement before and after matches. His presence remains a motivating factor for the team.

Focus on Morecambe

Bradford head into tonight’s game at Valley Parade sitting in a play-off spot, just two points off second-placed Salford City. However, Kavanagh insists the focus is on taking one game at a time:

“It can be a bit silly if you get all caught up in the league table in January. We’re just focused on ourselves and what’s ahead of us. Morecambe are fighting for their lives down there and will make it as tough as they can for us.”

Writer’s View

Calum Kavanagh’s performances have been a silver lining for Bradford City in the wake of Andy Cook’s injury. His ability to adjust to the central striker role while contributing goals and assists shows maturity beyond his years. Against Morecambe, the Bantams have a golden opportunity to solidify their promotion push, and with the backing of the Valley Parade faithful, they are well-placed to continue their fine home form.
