Southend United are actively pursuing three transfer targets in a bid to reinforce their squad, with manager Kevin Maher optimistic about completing deals.
The Shrimpers, who are preparing to face AFC Fylde tonight, are targeting a striker, a National League South midfielder, and another player currently at a National League club.
Tom Hopper Nearing Move to Southend
Among the targets is striker Tom Hopper, who is reportedly close to finalising a move to Roots Hall. His arrival would provide a boost to Southend’s attacking options as they aim to climb the National League table. Alongside Hopper, Southend have submitted an offer for a midfielder from the National League South and are negotiating with a third unnamed player.
“It’s good. We’ve got irons in the fire and hopefully one or two things aren’t too far away,” said Maher. “We’ve highlighted what we want and what we think we need. If we can get them then I think it will put us in a strong position. It’s not always easy to get them over the line but hopefully we’ll be able to do that.”
Maher’s comments underline the club’s determination to strengthen the squad during the current transfer window. With crucial fixtures ahead, securing the right players could play a pivotal role in Southend’s season.

Building Momentum
Southend, who host AFC Fylde tonight, are looking to build momentum in the league. The addition of fresh talent is expected to complement the current squad and improve depth in key areas. Hopper’s potential arrival and the pursuit of two additional targets highlight the club’s proactive approach as they push for better results.
Maher’s side are currently 14th in the table, but 11 points clear of Wealdstone in the final relegation place. Looking up the division, just six points separate them and Altrincham, who occupy the final play-off spot. It means it is still all to play for in a compact division where just ten points separate Dagenham in 16th and Rochdale in 6th.
