Update Emerges In Premier League Pursuit Of Derby County Man

Derby County have not yet reached any agreement with Brighton and Hove Albion for defender Eiran Cashin according to a report.

The Irish international has been subject to interest by The Seagulls for over a year and it is believed that Fabian Hurzeler’s side are gearing up for another push to sign the centre-back.

Cashin Speculation Rises

According to the Derby Telegraph, Albion are ‘ramping up their attempts’ to sign the 23-year-old this window after having a bid turned down, but have not reached any form of agreement with Paul Warne’s side over a transfer deal. Derby are insistent they will not sell Cashin, who has been at the club since 2009, but it is believed that he would prefer a move to the Premier League.

It is not the first time Brighton have come calling, with the clubs previously failing to strike a deal in the final moments of the summer transfer window of 2023/24, which also saw Cashin miss out on the matchday squad in the following game after that. He signed a new three-year deal at the club last season but Brighton have continued their approaches with the previous bid this window, rumoured to be in the region of £12 million according to SussexWorld, being rejected.

Speculation around his future has built up following County’s most recent game in a 2-1 loss to Cardiff City, where he continued to applaud fans after many of his teammates stopped as well as missing the squad in their previous game against Sunderland.

Brighton do need some new defensive options after losing Igor to a season-ending injury and Lewis Dunk struggling with knocks across this campaign. Eiran Cashin is a good choice to fill that and has been someone who is a long-term target for Albion, even if they did miss out on their first-choice transfer option of Vitor Reis. However, the onus is on them to strike a deal as Derby County do not need to force a sale and see him as a key player in their relegation battle. It feels like a deal that will happen eventually, but Brighton need to up their offer to get their man.
