After a drubbing at the weekend Portsmouth will try and put that behind them when they entertain Millwall in a crucial Championship match at Fratton Park, where the home side have a good recent record.
Our Three Predictions For Portsmouth v Millwall
- Prediction 1 – Match To Be A Draw – 43/20
- Prediction 2 – Portsmouth To Win – 183/100
- Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 9/10
First Prediction For Portsmouth v Millwall – Match To Be A Draw – 43/20
Portsmouth are currently one of the most in form teams at home, and hive won four straight games at Fratton Park, their last a resounding 3-1 victory against Stoke City. They are scoring with relative ease too with 13 goals in those four games. However, their recent good spell took a serious dent on Saturday when they were thumped at West Bromwich Albion, 5-1. Millwall in contrast have struggled when they leave the capital and have only won four times away, but they did win on their short trip to Luton Town this past weekend, and this was off the back of two drawn games. Portsmouth will want to show that the WBA result was a blip, but the stubborn Lions could dig in to gain a good point.
Second Prediction For Portsmouth v Millwall – Portsmouth To Win – 183/100
The fact that the Pompey home form, and general play has improved vastly over the last two months, the loss at WBA was a shock in terms of its manner. They return to the south coast licking their wounds, but will be very eager to prove that was a blip in what has been a good run. They are still very much in the relegation dogfight so points are at a premium, and they have a chance against their London rivals to put themselves back on track. Outscoring opponents 13-3 in their last four home matches will give them a boost, and knowing that their visitors do not travel well will further heighten their spirits. Millwall will be hard to break down, but given they’ve only won twice away does not bode well for their faithful travelling fans. We should see Portsmouth come out on the attack though and this could prove too much on the night.
Third Prediction For Portsmouth v Millwall – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 9/10
There are short odds on this bet for a reason – both sides struggle to keep clean sheets. Portsmouth have improved of late but have let in 51 goals in the Championship. Far too many if they are to survive the drop. As said they have improved with only eight conceded in five games, before their thrashing on Saturday letting in five is proof that goals can be scored still despite their improved results. Millwall fare much better and have only let in 27 overall, with 13 on the road. Their six conceded in the last five league games, trends with their average of just under a goal a game given away. This game should have goals in it.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
Going to WBA was never going to be easy, and a test of just how far Portsmouth have come in recent weeks, albeit still in the Championship drop zone. No one saw 5-1 though and that would’ve hurt John Mousinho, and dented the pride of the Pompey side. They have a quick chance to forget that performance at the start of a week that ends with a home game against high flying Burnley. Thomas Waddingham came off the bench at WBA for his debut, and the 19-year-old scored the late consolation goal. It is unlikely he will start but showed he can be an option off the bench. The defence will be reeling and will have to steady the ship, to do this they will need all of Marlon Pack’s experience and cut out the sloppy errors.
Millwall again find themselves in a bit of a no man’s land scenario. They should be safe from sliding into the relegation fight, but havent proved enough to keep them in the playoff hunt. That isnt to say they need to be complacent as there is still enough of the season to see both of those things happen. In the meantime Alex Neil will have to keep getting the best out of his Lions team, and the win away at Luton will serve as good notice for all teams that the London side will not just lay down. This trip away comes before a London derby against Queens Park Rangers, and could start a run that garners more points. They will need 20-year-old Mihailo Ivanovic to build on his winning strike at Luton, his third goal of the season. Japhet Tanganga is one of the defensive mainstays. alongside Jake Cooper and Joe Bryan, all three will have to be alert against a strong attacking side.
