Blackpool Respond To Takeover Talks: No Denial Issued

Blackpool FC have dismissed reports that club owner Simon Sadler is engaged in discussions to sell the Seasiders.

Over the weekend, the Financial Times reported that Sadler, who is also the founder of Segantii Capital Management, was exploring a potential sale to focus on clearing his name following insider trading charges in Hong Kong. The report claimed early talks had been held with Singapore-based investor Henry Teh, but Blackpool have denied any contact with Teh or his associates.

Club’s Official Statement

In response to the rumours, a Blackpool spokesperson said:

“The owner has always said that if anyone else was ever to come along and convince him that they could do a better job and invest in the club, then he would have to speak to them. He will always want to do what is right for the club.”

While the statement leaves the door open for potential talks in the future, the club has strongly refuted claims of any current discussions with Teh or other parties.

Sadler’s Tenure at Blackpool

Simon Sadler took over Blackpool in 2019 and has overseen a mixed period of success and struggle. Under his ownership, the Seasiders were promoted to the Championship in 2021 but faced relegation back to League One two years later. Despite the setbacks, Sadler has continued to invest in the club’s infrastructure and development.

However, Sadler’s legal challenges in Hong Kong, where he faces insider trading allegations dating back to 2017, have added uncertainty to his position. The case, now transferred to a higher court, is set to go to trial in May 2026.

Singapore Connection: Who is Henry Teh?

The alleged potential buyer, Henry Teh, is no stranger to Blackpool fans. Teh was reportedly involved in the bidding process for the club before Sadler’s eventual takeover. While his name has resurfaced in recent reports, there is no indication that he is actively pursuing ownership of the club at this time.

Future Outlook

For now, Blackpool’s focus remains on their League One campaign under manager Steve Bruce. The team has faced challenges but continues to strive for improvement and stability. Amidst these rumours, fans will be hoping for clarity on the club’s ownership situation as the Seasiders look to rebuild and aim for promotion back to the Championship.

Writer’s View

While the rumours of a potential sale may unsettle fans, Blackpool’s official denial suggests stability in the short term. However, the open-ended nature of the owner’s statement implies that a sale could be possible if the right offer comes along. For the club to succeed, clarity and focus will be crucial both on and off the pitch, particularly during a crucial period in League One.
