Norwich City Manager Offers Key Player Injury Update

Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup has given fans an update on the return of key striker Josh Sargent in the Pink Un.

Sargent has missed the Canaries’ last 12 Championship matches.

Caution The Name Of The Game

The report claims that the initial hope had been to include Sargent in the squad for Saturday’s clash with Coventry City but Thorup explained why he and his staff will opt for a more cautious approach.

“It will be a little bit longer [than Coventry]. If everything goes well, then I think we can expect him to be a part of the training starting next week,”

The hectic Christmas period has meant less time on the training pitch and the Norwich boss is eager to take a look at the 27-cap United States of America international.

“We will, nice and easy, integrate him with the squad and then we will see how that goes. When we have a couple of trainings with him being a part of the team, then we know exactly when to put him on.”

“To begin with, it will probably be from the bench and after doing it a couple of times, he can be a starter for us. If everything goes well, it’s realistic to think that he could be a part of training starting next week.”

Sargent was a huge player in City’s run to the playoffs last term, scoring 16 goals in 26 league outings and he had already scored four this season before his groin injury and subsequent surgery.

Thorup’s Injury Update For Luton

Norwich travel to Luton today for their opening game of 2025 and their manager has provided an update on other members of the squad: Gabriel Forsyth and Brad Hills.

When discussing a possible return for Forsyth, Thorup said:

“Probably later next week. If we can give him minutes, and that is the plan, then he could potentially play some minutes against Brighton in the FA Cup.”

“Brad Hills is also ill and has not been with the team in the last couple of days.”

Writer’s View

Following surgery, a cautious approach to Sargent’s return is the necessary approach. However, fans of the Canaries will be keen to see the American back firing and sharing the goal-scoring responsibilities with Borja Sainz.
