Sunderland will be waiting to find out how severe winger Tommy Watson’s injury is after he was taken off during their game against Bristol City.
The 19-year-old mas made a real step up at the Stadium of Light, starting their last six Championship games and was the deciding factor in their 2-1 win over Stoke City last weekend.

Watson was forced off the field on Wearside in the first half, with a tackle from Zak Vyner taking him down. Despite a brief period where it looked like he could continue playing, Watson went to the floor once more and was substituted for Patrick Roberts.
Speaking to the press after the 1-1 draw with Liam Manning’s side, Regis Le Bris confirmed that he had multiple issues, but was unsure to their extent. He said (Quotes via Northern Echo):
“With Tommy, we don’t have a diagnosis, so we will have to wait. At the moment, he has a problem both with the ankle and the knee. But we don’t know how serious.
“We missed Tommy, because the wingers are important against this type of defence. It is one of our main strengths to pin (the defence) inside, we can create space or switch the play. And a quick winger, good 1-v-1, can break this kind of defence. We were unlucky with Tommy, and we might have to find a solution now.”

Between Tommy Watson and Romaine Mundle, Sunderland are now quite short on their wide options. Both Patrick Roberts and Adil Aouchiche made their cases on the night, with the latter setting up the former for The Black Cats’ equaliser. Aouchiche looked like he would be leaving the club in January but now with Watson out for an undefined period, the former Paris Saint-Germain player could have a chance to save his season on Wearside and make a case to Regis Le Bris to be a regular starter in a team filled with some of the best young prospects in the EFL.
