Our Three Predictions For Bristol City v Plymouth Argyle

  • Prediction 1 – Bristol City To Win – 47/100
  • Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 79/100
  • Prediction 3 – Plymouth Argyle To Win – 101/20

First Prediction For Bristol City v Plymouth Argyle – Bristol City To Win – 47/100

Bristol City look like a lock for this fixture as not only is their home form impressive, Plymouth Argyle on their travels are woeful. City have lost their last two home games, but they have been narrow defeats against Sheffield United and Burnley – two teams that are pushing for automatic promotion. Before then they had put themselves on the fringes of the playoff chase with a series of drawn games, and their last home league game win against Oxford United. Argyle have conceded five against Cardiff City, three at Leeds United, and more recently this past week Norwich City they had six put past them. This does not bode well for the trip to Bristol.

Second Prediction For Bristol City v Plymouth Argyle – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 79/100

Despite being held goalless this past week in a loss at Watford, City have been regulars on the scoresheet and have bagged 20 in their 17 games so far. They will be buoyed by the Plymouth’s terrible defence that has let in 34 goals in this Championship season and therefore will likely get amongst the goals again. Even though the Pilgrims concede far too many they do manage to score a fair few too and have only been kept from scoring once in the last five games. Given their current plight they will be scrapping for anything loose in the City penalty area, and should get on the scoreboard once more.

Third Prediction For Bristol City v Plymouth Argyle – Plymouth Argyle To Win – 101/20

The law of averages does suggest that Plymouth are due a win, especially away from home. Their last Championship win was against fellow strugglers Portsmouth back on November 5. They have only picked up one point away from home, four days after the Pompey win. Their streaky, somewhat unpredictable play, means that this could be a game where they upset the odds, and Bristol City will have to be on their guard. With City’s last home win being in late September, they have drawn three, and lost the last two on home turf. This could be the ideal time for Argyle to smash and grab an unexpected victory.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

Liam Manning has built a side that, on its day, can defeat most teams in the Championship. They do come unstuck against the bigger sides, as shown in their recent defeats. This though should not detract from what is a solid squad that could make a surprise run to the playoffs at the turn of the year. To do this they will need to beat teams such as their visitors in this game. Plymouth are not a team that should trouble Manning’s men, and strikers Anis Mehmeti, Nahki Wells, and Yu Hirakawa should be able to add to their 11 goals between them.

It was a calculated risk when Plymouth appointed Wayne Rooney as their manager. The former England and Manchester United striker has not set the world alight during his managerial career, but the risk could be big rewards in the end. If he is given the time, he could get success, even with one of the lower budgets in the league. Every time the team takes a step forward with a result, they are shoved back two or three with the following games. Rooney will be hoping that his defence fairs better than they did against Norwich, and that veteran 33-year-old Andre Gray will stay among the goals.
