West Ham Plotting Move For Key Middlesbrough Figure

West Ham United are reportedly eyeing Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick as a potential candidate for their managerial role, should they decide to part ways with current boss Julen Lopetegui.

The Hammers have struggled in the Premier League this season, currently sitting 14th in the table, and Carrick is believed to be high on the shortlist for the job.

Pressure Mounts on Lopetegui

West Ham’s disappointing form has seen them lose seven matches this season, including a 3-1 defeat to Leicester City, managed by Ruud van Nistelrooy. Despite expectations that Lopetegui would be sacked after the Leicester game, the Spanish manager managed to survive the axe. However, he remains under significant pressure to turn the team’s fortunes around, with West Ham’s directors deliberating on his future as they prepare to face Wolves next.

Carrick, 43, is one of the top contenders on West Ham’s shortlist. While Boro would be reluctant to part with their manager, who is playing a key role in their push for promotion in the Championship, West Ham are keen to appoint a manager with an appealing style of football and a connection to the club, should they opt for a change.

The Boro boss, who made 100 appearances for West Ham in his playing days before moving to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, is steadily gaining recognition as one of the brightest coaching talents. Carrick has led his side to fifth place in the Championship and is guiding them in their push for promotion to the Premier League.

Carrick’s Growing Reputation as a Manager

Since taking the reins at Middlesbrough, Carrick has impressed with his tactical acumen and the attractive football his side plays. The former England international is in his third season with the club and led them to the play-offs in his first campaign. His previous experience includes a coaching role at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and he briefly took charge of the club as caretaker manager in 2021 following Solskjaer’s departure.

While Middlesbrough are unlikely to want to lose Carrick, especially given their promotion ambitions, West Ham are reportedly eager to bring him in should they decide to make a managerial change.

Writer’s View

The possibility of Carrick moving to West Ham would be a significant step in his managerial career. With his strong tactical approach and ties to the club, he could bring the fresh start that West Ham need. However, Middlesbrough are in the midst of a promotion push, and Carrick’s loyalty to his current project could play a key role in his decision.
