“I’m Embarassed” – Harrogate Town Boss Laments Performance

Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver was left disappointed with his side’s showing as they were well-beaten by a resurgent Salford City on Tuesday night.

The Sulphurites could not get a grip on the game and two goals by former Preston North End midfielder Ben Woodburn and Cole Stockton sealed three points for The Ammies to move well clear of any relegation worries.

“I Hate That”

Speaking with the Harrogate Advertiser, Weaver felt let down by the effort and actions of his players in Greater Manchester. He said:

“It just looked terrible and I’m embarrassed about that performance. It starts with attitude and the attitude was lacking bite, lacking energy and intensity tonight.

“We sauntered around and looked a bit soft. There’s players looking for free kicks, looking for contact to go down. I don’t like it, I hate that side of football. I don’t want to see Harrogate Town players turning up and begging for free-kicks, squealing.

“I am devastated. The level of performance I saw tonight, I did not see it coming.”

Town are still seven points clear of the relegation places in League Two and brought to an end a positive run of results which saw them book a third-round tie in the FA Cup against Leeds United and wins over Gillingham and Chesterfield in the league.

They welcome AFC Wimbledon to North Yorkshire next weekend, with a win giving them ever closer to the top seven battle in the fourth tier.

After a positive spell, it would naturally be disappointing to see your team collapse like that as Simon Weaver has. They were played off the park by Salford City and did not deserve anything out of that match. He will look for a result when they head back to Wetherby Road but with the visit of AFC Wimbledon. On their day, Johnnie Jackson’s side are untouchable so Weaver will need to see the best out of his side to secure a result.
