Blackburn Rovers prospect Brandon Powell has secured a loan move to Chorley, where he will gain valuable experience in the National League North.
The club announced the temporary switch on their official website, confirming that the full-back will remain with Chorley until the end of December.
A Chance to Shine
The 19-year-old has been a regular for Blackburn’s U21s this season under Mike Sheron’s management. This loan represents his first taste of senior football, offering Powell a chance to test himself in a competitive environment and continue his development journey.
Chorley manager Andy Preece expressed excitement about the signing:
“Brandon is another young player that’s come to our attention this season. He is the type of player who will fit in really well to our squad. Blackburn produce lots of exciting young players and Brandon is another of those. We want to help him develop further and thank everyone at Blackburn for allowing him to come to Chorley.”
Powell’s addition will bolster their defensive depth and provide further competition in the backline during this crucial period.
Rising Through the Ranks
Powell, a Huddersfield native, joined Blackburn Rovers in 2016 following his time in Manchester City’s academy. He progressed through Blackburn’s youth ranks, breaking into the U18s and later establishing himself in the U23s. While he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Rovers, this loan move marks a significant step in his career.
The young defender will look to make the most of his time at Chorley, gaining match experience and showcasing his potential. Blackburn will assess his progress upon his return, with decisions to be made about his future at the club.
Chorley 24/25
Chorley are currently riding high at the top of National League North, two points clear of challengers Scunthorpe United. Managed by former Stockport striker Andy Preece, they missed out on promotion after defeat in the play-offs last season. Powell will join fellow north east loanees Jake Moore (Blackpool) and Dubum Eze (Bolton) at Victory Park.
Writer’s View
This loan spell is a pivotal moment for Brandon Powell. Playing senior football in a competitive league like the National League North can provide the physical and mental challenges young players need to transition to first-team football. Chorley’s promotion push offers an excellent backdrop for Powell to prove his mettle and make a strong case for more opportunities at Blackburn.
