Carlos Corberan has been tipped for an exit from West Bromwich Albion following the sacking of Steve Cooper at Leicester City.
Despite The Foxes being outside of the relegation zone in the Premier League, the owners at the King Power Stadium decided to oust the Welshman after their loss to Chelsea and ex-boss Enzo Maresca over the weekend.
‘One Of The Favourites’
Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has stated that The Baggies manager is ‘one of the favourites’ in the running to take over the East Midlands club who won the Championship last season.
Corberan has been a success story at The Hawthorns and led the club to the play-offs last season and looks well on track to match that feat in this campaign. He recently managed his 100th game for the club after taking over in October 2022, with his contract expiring in 2027.
He has never managed in the Premier League before but boasts a 45% win rate with Albion. The former Huddersfield Town manager has also been in charge at European heavyweights Olympiacos.
Corberan has been a previous target for Leicester, with the Spaniard being a potential replacement for Maresca but ultimately chose to appoint Cooper. The Foxes are reported to be looking to install a new leader in time for their match against Brentford next weekend.
Writer’s View
Leicester City have previous interest in Carlos Corberan so it is no surprise they are looking at their former target again. This decision will undoubtedly change the course of West Brom’s season as should he leave, it has the potential to derail The Baggies’ promotion hopes.
The decision comes down to if Leicester want a proven Premier League manager such as ex-Sunderland boss David Moyes or are willing to risk it all on an unproven manager in the top flight like Corberan. Former Burnley target Ruud Van Nistelrooy is also a great option after his brief spell in charge at Manchester United. He had been linked back with The Clarets upon his departure from Old Trafford but is seeking a second Premier League chance.
