Cheltenham Town Boss Reveals Double Fitness Boost

Cheltenham Town are hopeful that they will have two players available to them as they prepare for a Friday night clash against Tranmere Rovers.

The Robins have stabilised over recent weeks to keep themselves firmly away from the relegation battle in League Two but lost in their most recent game against MK Dons.

Stubbs In Contention

The biggest positive news for Town, when they welcome the Birkenhead side down to Whaddon Road, is that Sam Stubbs is back in contention. The Bradford City loanee looked a positive addition to the side since joining over the summer, making 13 appearances but had not featured since their draw against Bromley at the start of the month.

The 26-year-old suffered a swollen knee which forced him to sit out the loss to Milton Keynes, but Flynn said to GloucesterLive:

“Stubbsy has a chance and hopefully he’ll be all right. There were lots of positives from last Saturday, but our defending for the three goals was not up to standard and we handed them the three points.”

Another boost for Cheltenham is the return of Arkell Jude-Boyd who was on international duty with Saint Lucia. He played in both games but came off of the bench in the first and was substituted just after an hour in the second.

Discussing the return of the winger, the former Swindon Town boss said:

“We knew they’d manage Arkell’s minutes in the second game and if he’d reported back with a problem, he wouldn’t have been in my good books.

“He was called up and he made a decision, so we had to abide by the rules, it’s as simple as that. All being well, he’ll be up for selection.”

Writer’s View

It is some good news for a Cheltenham Town side that looks to be finally adapting and clicking to life back in League Two. They were on a five-game unbeaten run before the loss to MK Dons and claimed a major scalp in beating Rotherham United in the FA Cup. This game against Tranmere is a vital game to get a win in, with a win lifting them up to within touching distance of the top half before any other team kicks a ball. Win this game and they are surely in contention for a play-off push.
