£3 Million-Rated West Bromwich Albion winger Mikey Johnston has been hailed as a “very good player” by teammate Karlan Grant after Johnston’s recent performance in the club’s 2-1 victory over Hull City.
The 25-year-old, who joined the Baggies on a permanent deal this summer following a successful loan from Celtic, impressed in his first starting role of the season.
Johnston Eager for Starting Role
Johnston’s journey at West Brom began with his initial loan spell in January, where he scored seven goals in the latter part of the season, helping the club reach the Championship play-offs. Despite facing tough competition this season from wingers like Tom Fellows, Grady Diangana, Lewis Dobbin, and Jed Wallace, Johnston is determined to secure a regular spot in Carlos Corberan’s starting lineup.
Karlan Grant Praise
After the Hull City match, attacker Grant praised Johnston’s abilities.
“He’s a very good player… but he came into the side and it was nice to play with him. I’ve had little cameos with him when he’s come on, but we came off together today and there were glimpses of us interchanging, I enjoyed it,” said Grant.
Having made 11 league appearances this season, Johnston has contributed one goal so far and will aim to add more as West Brom continues their campaign. The Republic of Ireland international, who has earned 12 caps, hopes to become a regular starter after the international break as the Baggies look to build on their recent win and improve their league standing.
Looking Ahead
West Brom’s win over Hull City ended a frustrating string of six consecutive draws, providing a morale boost for Corberan’s squad. With the team sitting in fifth place, they’ll aim to carry this momentum into their next match against Norwich City on 23 November. Johnston’s performance will be crucial as the Baggies look to strengthen their position in the top six, where they currently join Leeds United, Burnley, and Watford.
