Matt Bloomfield has finally spoken about the reports linking him to the Coventry City job following Mark Robins’ sacking.
The Wycombe Wanderers boss has The Chairboys at the top of League One by two points and secured their seventh win in a row and eight wins in their last nine by beating Wigan Athletic.
“As Far As I Am Concerned”
According to reports from The Guardian, Coventry have approached Wycombe for the services of Bloomfield, who spent his player career at Adams Park before venturing into management with Colchester United.
Speaking to the Bucks Free Press following the win over the Latics, the 40-year-old denied the reports, saying:
“I’ve not heard anything from my club. As far as I am concerned, it is just speculation.
“It is lovely to be linked with jobs higher up the food chain as it shows that the job you are doing is the right one. I haven’t had any time to sit and think, and as far as I am concerned, there is nothing to think about.
“My only focus is this football club. This club means a lot to me, the fans means a lot to me, and the players have my sole focus.”
The Sky Blues are in the market for a new boss following the surprise dismissal of Mark Robins earlier this week and fared well in their first game after his sacking to draw with league leaders Sunderland after being 2-0 down.
Writer’s View
Whilst certainly he would be a good appointment to replace Mark Robins, it feels that Coventry City will have to look elsewhere in their search for a replacement. Matt Bloomfield has been part of Wycombe Wanderers since 2008 and with the club challenging at the top of League One, now would be a difficult time to leave the club. There is an allure to the City job with the potential they have shown in their playoff final appearance and FA Cup semi-final run, but Bloomfield looks set on staying in Buckinghamshire.
