Colchester United rescued a point in the dying moments at playoff-chasing Barrow thanks to international striker Lyle Taylor but are now nine games without a win in all competitions.
The Montserrat forward equalised in the 92nd minute to ensure his side took a point back to Essex.
Behind At The Break
The visitors could have taken the lead early in the match after a neat interchange between John-Kymani Gordon and Lyle Taylor saw the former enter the box only for his low shot to be turned away by the host’s keeper Wyll Stanway.
It was Barrow who broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark when a Neo Eccleston cross from the right made its way right across the area to Elliot Newby. The 28-year-old took a touch before smashing the ball left-footed into the roof of the net.
The equaliser arrived when Taylor hooked the ball into the path of strike partner Samson Tovide. The striker could have been pulled up for a foul but drove into the box and unselfishly squared the ball for Taylor to roll the ball into the empty net.
Cowley Praises His Side’s Spirit
Danny Cowley praised the spirit shown by his Colchester side despite going a ninth game without a win.
“You might be able to question elements of our game and our performance but you definitely can’t question the spirit of the group.”
“I thought we were really unlucky to be 1-0 down, in a game of few chances.”
“We probably had the best one in the game – a great move with JK (Gordon) and Lyle linking.”
The U’s boss was full of praise for the way the supporters have stuck with his side and was pleased they would be going home with a point.
“I spoke to a lot of the supporters before – some travelled up yesterday, some travelled up seven hours this morning and it was incredible to at least share the goal and then the moment afterwards with them.”
“They’ve been incredibly loyal in the most testing of circumstances.”
