Colchester United boss Danny Cowley has admitted that he wishes he had a magic wand to turn his side’s fortunes around, as reported by the Halstead Gazette.
The U’s have taken just three points from their last six league fixtures.
Wishes For A Magic Wand
Colchester are preparing for the long trip to Barrow amid a hugely disappointing run of form that has seen them drop to 21st in the League Two table.
Cowley spoke of one way his side could arrest their slide down the table.
“If I had a magic wand, which I absolutely wish I did, then life would be much easier.”
He believes that these challenging times can only be overcome by one approach.
“The only way you navigate through these difficult moments is by keep working.”
“The only way we know is to get on the training pitch, to keep working, to keep setting the players up to feel good physically, technically, tactically and we also support that with our off-field coaching.”
Sympathy For Supporters
Colchester’s last three seasons have seen them finish in the bottom four of the Football League and, when coupled with current form, this has seen an increase in the tension among supporters.
Cowley, however, has sympathy for the long-suffering fanbase.
“I feel for our supporters, it’s human nature when the club has suffered like it has done in the last four or five seasons.”
“It’s human nature to go to those past experiences and fear the worst. We understand this.”
“The support at Swindon was incredible throughout the game and even at the end.”
Need To Dig Deep
The U’s head north to face another side out of form in the shape of Barrow. But Cowley insists his side must call on their fighting qualities to achieve the result they want.
“We’ve had some really determined, resilient away performances.”
“We will certainly need those qualities again on Saturday. But we also want to try and keep moving forward offensively and with our attacking play.”
“I don’t have a magic wand but it’s something we’re working tirelessly toward.”
Writer’s View
Despite the long trip, this fixture may be what Colchester need to kickstart their season as Barrow has also forgotten what winning feels like.
Cowley needs a win from somewhere or the tension among fans will only increase.
