Pressure Growing On Colchester United Boss As U’s Exit The Cup

Colchester United manager Danny Cowley has received a mixed reaction from supporters following another defeat for his side, this time exiting the FA Cup at the first round stage.

Another First Round Exit

The U’s exited the famous competition at the first round stage for the eighth time in nine years at the hands of Swindon Town.

Harry Anderson had given Cowley’s side a 64th-minute lead as his low effort beat Jack Bycroft in the Swindon goal.

The visitors couldn’t hold on to secure their passage to the second round and were pegged back thanks to Joel McGregor’s strike with just seven minutes remaining.

That goal took the tie into extra time and an extra 30 minutes of football for two of the bottom four teams in League Two. The first half of extra time passed by with no change to the 1-1 score line.

It only took the home side a minute of the second period to take the lead. Kabongo Tshimanga was on hand from close range to give his side a 2-1 lead and progression to the second round.

The defeat takes The U’s to eight games without a win in all competitions and has led to a mixed reaction from supporters who are witnessing yet another disappointing campaign.

Keeping The Faith In Cowley

Despite the poor run of form and sitting fourth bottom of the Football League, many fans are still sure Danny and brother Nicky are the right men for the job.

@haz44411 doesn’t believe the club should dispense of their services just yet. He commented:

‘genuinely intrigued who people want to replace the Cowleys, believe it or not they are the biggest asset we have  as a club’.

Cowleys Out, Time For A Change

There is, however, a growing number of supporters who believe enough is enough and it is time for a change.

‘I think it’s time the brother go’

states @TwitColUs, who goes on to remind followers that Cowley had:

‘a top 6 budget’ during the summer transfer window.’

Some supporters are reluctantly coming round to the idea that a change in management is required. @BigWillColU says:

‘Hate to say it but I’m leaning towards Cowley out!’

Disgruntlement among supporters is to be expected when the club are on such a poor run but, given time, the Cowleys will turn it round.
