Bradford City have once again lost a key player in their squad after Graham Alexander confirmed Tyreik Wright will face a spell out.
The left winger has played 14 times for The Bantams in what is his third spell at the club, this time joining on a permanent basis from Plymouth Argyle. After playing three of their last four league games, the 23-year-old was missing for their FA Cup first-round victory against Aldershot Town.
Out Until New Year
Speaking on Wright’s condition, Alexander told the media (Quotes via Yorkshire Post):
“Tyreik unfortunately picked up an injury prior to the last game against Aldershot.
“He’s going to be missing for probably a couple of months at least, which is a shame for us all, but especially Tyreik.
“He’s damaged his quad in training and when we had it scanned, it was confirmed as being serious enough to take him out for a while.”
Injury Boost Elsewhere
Wright has been one of Alexander’s regular options to play on the left wing of his 3-5-2 system at Valley Parade and has been ahead of full-back Lewis Richards across recent games. It was the former Harrogate Town loanee who started against The Shots, providing an assist in a 3-1 win that secured a place in the second round.
Injury problems have been seen on the left-hand side before this season and whilst they have lost Wright for an extended period, good news comes in the form of Clarke Odour’s return to training. The Kenyan has played on that flank a couple of times before and could also be an option for this next set of games.
Speaking about his return, Alexander added:
“Clarke has been out on the grass with us and trained for the first time (on Wednesday), which is good, so fingers crossed he is fine for the weekend.
“It’s dragged on a little but he was out there.”
Writer’s View
Bradford City have lost many of their first-choice players across the span of this season but have fared well whilst they have been missing. Jack Shepherd is a notable example, inserting himself as a near-undroppable player when he got his chance following Aden Baldwin’s injury. Perhaps Lewis Richards can follow in his footsteps with this chance and give Graham Alexander food for thought when the Irish winger returns.
