Two Depart Watford Looking For First Team Minutes

Two of Watford’s emerging talents have temporarily departed Vicarage Road, gaining valuable experience with non-league sides as the club looks to further their development.

Winger Jake Watkiss has joined National League South leaders Farnborough, while goalkeeper Roraigh Browne moves to Bishop’s Stortford in the Southern League Premier Central Division. Both players made their debuts on Tuesday evening, with Watkiss appearing as a late substitute in a 1-1 draw against Truro. Farnborough currently top the table, ahead of local teams such as Hemel Hempstead and Boreham Wood.

Watkiss, capable of playing as both a wing-back and a more advanced winger, has already made an impact this season in Watford’s youth setup. He’s found the net twice in the Professional Development League and added another goal in the Under-21 Premier League Cup, scoring against Everton. His attacking contributions and adaptability on the flanks could bolster Farnborough’s promotion charge.

Browne, who has been with Watford since 2019 and previously spent time on loan at Northwood, Walthamstow, and Chertsey Town, made his first appearance for Bishop’s Stortford. Unfortunately, it came in a 2-1 home defeat to Royston.

Adu-Poku’s Electric Start at Solihull Moors

The biggest success story among Watford’s loanees so far has been Michael Adu-Poku, who has enjoyed a standout start at National League side Solihull Moors. The midfielder delivered a stellar debut performance last Saturday, claiming an assist and being named Man of the Match in Solihull’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Barnet, the league leaders. His dynamic display saw him featured in both the Vanarama National League Team of the Week and the Non-League Paper’s Team of the Day.

Adu-Poku followed up his debut with a full 90-minute display in Moors’ 2-1 win over Woking on Tuesday, marking the club’s third consecutive league victory. Solihull’s recent form has propelled them into the National League play-off spots, and Adu-Poku’s contributions have been crucial to their success.

For Watford, these deals are an excellent opportunity to see how the young players adapt to senior football. Watkiss is one to watch; his early success at youth level suggests he could make an immediate impact. If he can carry his goal-scoring form into non-league football, this loan could serve as a significant milestone in his journey toward becoming a first-team player at Watford.
