Norwich City are closing in on a loan deal for Liverpool’s Kaide Gordon after agreeing a fee for Abu Kamara to leave.
The former Portsmouth winger handed in a transfer request last week and was left out of previous matchday squads by Johannes Hoff Thorup. A deal has finally been struck with Hull City, which could reach a figure of £5 million according to The Pink’un.
Oxford United and Luton Town were also reportedly in for the 21-year-old but he had decided that he would head to Yorkshire. The Canaries have now identified their replacement, with Liverpool’s Kaide Gordon now firmly in their sights as reported by The Athletic.
A former Derby County prospect, the winger is one of many youth prospects at Anfield who have been allowed moves away this summer. Fellow players such as Lewis Koumas and Ben Doak have landed in the Championship, at Stoke City and Middlesbrough respectively.
The 19-year-old is already a double EFL Cup and one-time FA Cup winner under Jurgen Klopp and has previous experience in the England Under 20’s side. However, new boss Arne Slot has only used Gordon for a total of 19 minutes in a pre-season friendly against Real Betis.
Norwich have lost both Kamara and Jonathan Rowe in this window, with Josh Sargent now taking the helm as the first-choice forward at Carrow Road. Ante Crnac has been signed this window from Polish side Rakow, whilst Oscar Schwartau has arrived from Brondby.
A move away from Anfield will be his first regular experience in senior football, only brought into the Liverpool setup for cup games and in European competition. Injuries has plagued his progress on Merseyside, but Slot still believes that the winger has a future at the club.

Kaide Gordon has been viewed as a potential replacement to Mo Salah in the future. Whilst the arrival of Federico Chiesa may dent that in the short term, getting regular playing time anywhere will help him leaps and bounds should he progress well. Norwich is a well-regarded club in developing talent, such as Abu Kamara, and will become a well-needed asset in the Championship this season.
Injuries are a concern though, as having issues with his pelvis stunted his initial breakthrough at Anfield. But he does have some versatility on the right wing and as an attacking midfielder. If Hoff Thorup can tap into that talent shown in his first few games at The Reds they will have a very strong attack to realise their promotion goals.
