Conflicting Reports Emerge Over Bradford City Transfer Saga

Conflicting reports have emerged this morning regarding the future of Bradford City striker Jake Young as speculation over a transfer to Fleetwood Town continues.

The 23-year-old become one of the hottest talents in League Two last season after joining Swindon Town on loan at the beginning of the campaign. His time at the County Ground was hugely successful, bagging 16 goals in 26 appearances before the turn of the year.

It was this form that led Bradford to cut short his temporary stint at the Robins in January. However, injury limited his appearances at Valley Parade whilst there was constant noise throughout the winter transfer window that the Bantams would look to cash in.

This was vehemently denied by manager Graham Alexander, who has remained consistent in his view that he would like to keep the attacker at the club. Fleetwood had a bid accepted last week, although there is yet to be any movement on the transfer.

This has been backed up this morning by local media outlet Telegraph & ArgusThe publication states that Young is still deciding whether to make the move to the North West and may be holding out for interest from League One.

The likes of Stevenage, Crawley Town, Barnsley and Wigan Athletic all made tentative enquiries over the summer but it is said their interest has cooled. With less than three days until the transfer window shuts, this could see the former Forest Green Rovers man stay put, until January at least.

In a confusing twist though, Football Insider claim that Young has agreed to move to Fleetwood and will head to the Highbury Stadium today to complete his medical.

The attacker has made just one appearance this season, coming on as a substitute in the Carabao Cup clash with Grimsby Town.

Writer’s View

This is a confusing situation but one that appears to be developing quickly. If Young does have his heart set on a move away from Bradford, time is running out and he will need to make a fast decision. However, this could force him to make the wrong one.

No disrespect to Fleetwood, but Bradford are a club which hold similar ambitions, albeit the Cod Army were in League One as recent as last season. Despite that, there is unlikely to be much separating the two teams this season in what will be an exceptionally tight League Two. Should he move to Highbury, Fleetwood will feel they have pulled off somewhat of a coup, but it would be an odd career choice.
