Swindon Town Secure Move For League One Player

Swindon Town are set to add to their attacking options with a loan move for Kabongo Tshimanga, beating interest from other clubs.

The Peterborough United striker joined the Posh last summer but only registered four games since making the permanent switch to London Road. Fleetwood Town and Boreham Wood both had the 26-year-old on loan last season, but couldn’t add enough to prevent both sides from being relegated from League One and the National League respectively.

According to the Swindon Advertiser’s Joe Acklam, The Robins will confirm the move for Tshimanga next week, adding more options to a strike force that has scored just once in League Two this season. They drew 1-1 with Chesterfield on opening day, before facing heavy defeats to Crawley Town in the cup and Walsall last time out.

Two un-named National League clubs were also interested in a move for the former MK Dons man, as well as Scottish side Partick Thistle. He becomes the second striker to join this window after capturing Harry Smith from Sutton United following their relegation to the fifth tier.

Darren Ferguson’s side listed the forward for transfer at the end of last season, alongside former Bradford City man Romoney Crichlow-Noble. Whilst the Cambridgeshire club hoped to offload the Congolese international permanently, he has instead gone to League Two.

Town play in the early kickoff today, travelling to Crewe Alexandra in hopes of their first win of the season. Mark Kennedy’s side sit in 21st after two games, whilst their opponents are at the foot of the fourth division table. With the deal expected to be announced next week, Tshimanga would be in line to make his debut at home against Notts County.

Writer’s View

Swindon Town have been in need of a fourth forward option and it seems that Kabongo Tshimanga is who Mark Kennedy has opted for. The striker did seem to struggle to consistently deliver in League One and his three National League Team of the Season appearances suggest he is too good for that level. Swindon provide a stable foothold for him to make his mark and market himself to clubs to secure a move away from Peterborough.

The Robins are still very early into the season but they have not been up to the electric start they made under Michael Flynn twelve months ago. Only Harry Smith has scored from their forward line this season to level the tie in the EFL Cup match against Crawley. The upcoming fixtures are a mixed bag, with today’s game against Crewe and Newport County in the near future giving chances to make their first wins of the season.
