Fresh Twist In Hull City Midfielder Pursuit

Hull City are facing a challenge in securing their loan move for Juventus midfielder Joseph Nonge Boende after a second Belgian club have made their interest known.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, The Tigers have agreed a deal with the Italian giants for a season-long loan with no option to buy. The news comes days after West Bromwich Albion‘s interest in the 19-year-old was cooled following a stagnation in talks.

However, it seems that the Yorkshire side may be facing the same fate as it was revealed that Nonge Boende would prefer a move to his native Belgium, with two first-division clubs interested in a move for the midfielder. Royal Antwerp have previously contacted Juventus over deal, wanting a loan with an option to buy.

It has now emerged that RSC Anderlecht are now monitoring the situation, with Les Mauve yet to contact the Turin side for an offer. The Brussels club is currently top of the Pro League, one point clear of Westerlo.

Hull have already secured 10 incomings under new manager Tim Walter, with Hull Live noting that it is the club’s aim to bring in two new midfield options ahead of the window shutting next week. The first option is already set to arrive at the Championship side in Jonas Meffert, who will join on a permanent deal from Walter’s former club Hamburg.

City had previously been pursuing Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis, but the deal for Meffert has now cooled their interest. Rangers were also reportedly targeting the 26-year-old, according to a now-deleted article in the Scottish Sun.

Nonge Boende emerged through the academy at Juventus, making four senior appearances since 2022 for The Old Lady, but has largely represented in the Juventus Next Gen team this season. He has also represented his national team at under-17 and 18 level.

Writer’s View

It looks like Hull City’s pursuit of a second midfielder will continue as a deal for Anderlecht seems like Joseph Nongo Boende’s preferred choice. The Belgian giants are already in the lead of the Pro League and a move to his homeland is a decisive factor in the move. Transfers ultimately play out this way but it is helpful to Tim Walter’s team to know that they can move on and pursue other targets with a week left.

The Tigers’ priority should be finding a replacement for Oscar Estupinan. The Colombian is expected to be sold to Mexican club FC Juarez in the coming hours and is unavailable against Millwall as he travels across the Atlantic. Exploring loan options from Premier League sides might fill the void left. Manchester United’s Ethan Wheatley could be an option following his inclusion in a few of The Red Devils’ games last season, however an injury to Rasmus Hojlund will likely keep him at Old Trafford this window.
