Millwall head coach Neil Harris shared his excitement about signing new forward Femi Azeez from Reading and the Lions boss believes the 23-year-old is well suited for Championship football.
The South London outfit were linked with Azeez throughout the summer transfer window. However, Millwall unveiled the former Reading man as their new player on Thursday for an undisclosed fee. Currently, Azeez is the Lions’ fifth signing of the window so far. The forward joins fellow new Macauley Langstaff, defender Japhet Tanganga and goalkeepers Liam Roberts and Lukas Jensen at the Den.
The former Reading player enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2023/24. Last season, the 23-year-old played all 46 League One matches for the Royals, scored nine goals and made eight assists, as recorded by Transfermarkt.
Despite outlining his frustrations with the lack of transfer activity earlier this week, Harris was delighted when speaking about Azeez’s arrival at the club. During an interview with the South London Press, the 47-year-old praised Azeez’s quality and backed his new player to hit the ground running in the Championship.
“I’m delighted to get Femi on board, we have chased him for the majority of the summer. He has been identified by the football club, for a period now, as an exciting prospect and one of the top performers in the league below. He is clearly ready to make the transition to the Championship.
“I’ve seen him first hand over the last couple of seasons and the development he has shown. He brings real pace and power to the attacking unit. He is a good one-vote player and I’m sure Reading fans are going to miss his end product and goals.
“Millwall fans would have seen his world-class goals and hope to see them replicated in a Millwall shirt.”
Millwall have struggled for results early in the 2024/25 campaign. Harris’ outfit lost their opening two matches against Watford at home (3-2) and Bristol City away (4-3). The Championship side takes on Hull City at the MKM Stadium this Saturday and Azeez could make his debut for the Londoners.

Azeez’s arrival at Millwall will be a relief for Harris. Throughout the window, the club has shown the ability to get their targets over the line this summer. In addition, the forward provides greater competition in the wide areas to challenge Duncan Watmore and Romain Esse, who have notched four goals between them already this season, per Whoscored.
Azees is also a talented young player who can score and assist and suits the new-look young squad at the Den. With 80 senior games at Championship and League One level under his belt, there’s no reason to see why the 23-year-old can’t perform at a high level immediately at Millwall.
