Crewe Alexandra Star Wanted By Ambitious League One Side

Out-of-contract Crewe Alexandra defender Rio Adebisi is wanted by Peterborough United, with the League One side having a number of bids turned down for the defender according to a post by journalist Mike McGrath on Twitter (X).

Despite not having a contract with the Alex ahead of the forthcoming season, as he is both an academy product as well as under the age of 24, they will be due some form of compensation.

That could well be the reason why we have not seen Adebisi make a move yet this window and he could well make the step-up to League One after a fine season for both himself as well as the club. Although they’d fall at the final hurdle, losing to Crawley Town in the play-off final, there’s plenty to like about the project under manager Lee Bell.

Adebisi was one of the standouts for Bell’s side, starting every single game in the third tier as well as all three play-off matches. Despite being a left-sided defender, the 23-year-old offers plenty going forward and his four goals and seven assists in the third tier last season certainly aided their strong campaign.

Defensively, Crewe were one of the strongest sides in the division, conceding the seventh least amount of goal and Adebisi being a constant in the starting lineup certainly helped the team across the year.

However, with Crewe failing to gain promotion to League One, there’s a high likelihood that the defender may well move on this summer and Peterborough United are displaying a good amount of interest in him with a number of offers turned down.

With Harrison Burrows potentially moving on from London Road this window, Adebisi could be a long-term fix and Posh manager Darren Ferguson has a proven track record of taking and improving young talent from the lower leagues.

It seems like a very good move on paper for Adebisi, who will be expected to go onto better things in the future. After a superb season in the fourth tier last term, his strongest yet, he seems worthy of a step-up.

Writer’s View

If Adebisi is to move on this summer, then he will be a rather substantial loss for the Alex. However, after his performances last season it comes as no surprise to see an ambitious side such as Peterborough after him.

Despite being just 23, the left-back already has 117 EFL appearances to his name, 37 of those being in League One and he’d be a great pickup for Posh, who could well be seeing significant change in their defensive cohort this window.

He’d be expected to challenge for a starting spot and it is highly unlikely that we’ve seen the best of him just yet.
