Stevenage Make Move For Prolific Former Player

Stevenage have strengthened their forward line with the acquisition of MK Dons attacker Dan Kemp.

The 25-year-old had a breakout year in League Two with a loan move to Swindon Town, where he scored 16 times in 27 appearances for The Robins before being recalled back to Buckinghamshire in the winter transfer window.

Alongside Bradford City‘s Jake Young, the pair propelled Swindon with 33 goals for the club to a brilliant start in the league but tailed off to be 16th by the time the pair departed the County Ground after the new year.

Kemp returned to Mike Williamson’s side but failed to produce in the same way he did in Wiltshire and struggled for minutes by the end of the season. Alex Revell’s side agreed to a two-year deal for the former Leyton Orient player, who will join the club on July 1st.

It is not the first time the Sidcup-born player has been at the Lamex Stadium as he had a brief stint at Stevenage in 2020 whilst on loan from the West Ham academy. He also has experience in the third tier with Milton Keynes and Blackpool.

The Boro have focused on building their forward line this summer with the addition of Louis Appéré from Northampton Town following the expiration of his deal at Sixfields.

Speaking on the signing of Kemp, Stevenage boss Revell said: “Just like Louis, Dan is a player we specifically targeted to add to the group we have. He has been prolific whilst on loan in League Two and we’re delighted to welcome him back to Stevenage FC”.

Last season saw the Hertfordshire team come narrowly close to the League One play-offs with a ninth-placed finish but was marred with the departure of Steve Evans just before the final matches of the season to the already relegated Rotherham United.

Dan Kemp is a brilliant addition to Stevenage going into next season. He was stellar in his spell with Swindon and proved his ability before his return to MK Dons in January. Whilst he still showed flashes of talent when he had chances, those minutes were limited. It speaks volumes when he won the Swindon Player of the Season award despite not playing for the club in months.

Stevenage have a great threat to add to their arsenal. Bar Jamie Reid, the rest of the team struggled to find the net so perhaps it is no surprise Alex Revell has targetted goalscorers in the first stages of the transfer window. The side is still very strong and surely will be in the play-off question come next season.
