West Bromwich Albion Braced For Premier League Interest

West Bromwich Albion will face a battle to keep hold of emerging star Tom Fellows after reported interest from a Premier League side.

The 21-year-old has had an electric start to this season, starting in three Championship matches and notching up as many assists. He is entering his second season as a first-team player at The Hawthorns following a 40-game loan spell at Crawley Town.

According to Simon Jones via Sami Mokbel’s social media, Southampton are interested in a move for the Solihull-born player and are reportedly considering a £10 million bid for him. Saints are yet to sign a right winger in this window, with summer signing Yukinari Sugawara playing on that flank as part of a back five.

Russell Martin’s side have faced a tricky start back in the Premier League following their play-off triumph over Leeds United. The Hampshire club failed to capitalise on their man advantage on opening day against Newcastle and were beaten late on against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

West Brom meanwhile have previously targetted wingers this window, with Lewis Dobbin arriving on loan and Davante Cole moving on a free transfer from Barnsley. However, it has been Karlan Grant who has started for Carlos Corberan’s team after returning from his season long loan at Cardiff City.

The Spanish manager has made his admiration of Fellows known following The Baggies’ win over Stoke City, in which the winger assisted both Grant and Josh Maja to secure a 2-1 win away from home. He said (Quotes via Express and Star): “Nothing Tom Fellows does on the pitch is going to surprise me or surprise us because we know his quality as a footballer.”

Southampton have struggled in their opening two top-flight fixtures and are beside Everton as the only sides not to score in the league yet. Reports have stated that Martin is seeking further striking reinforcements to support former Blackburn Rovers man Ben Brereton Diaz with a move for Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto.

Writer’s View

Tom Fellows was always going to gather attention following a promising breakthrough season at West Brom and a brilliant start to this campaign. £10 million is a lot of money though and may give the club some well-needed funds to push on for promotion this season. However, Carlos Corberan should do everything in his power to keep the winger at the club before the window shuts.

Being a product of The Baggies’ academy, he is already a beloved figure for Albion and this season is shaping up to build upon their fifth-placed finish last season. Josh Maja is delivering goals and overall the squad built at The Hawthorns is certainly in with a chance of promotion. Fellows has already matched his tally of assists from 2023/24 and can certainly move well past that figure. His development under Corberan is very promising and could be a decisive factor in the fate of West Brom’s season.
