Cardiff City Pushing For New Striker

Cardiff City are intensifying their search for a new striker before the transfer window shuts, according to Darren Witcoop on X.

City are said to have several players on their shortlist as they look for someone to spearhead their attack, with manager Erol Bulut clearly keen to boost his goalscoring options. The club are currently fairly short on attacking options, especially when it comes to out-and-out strikers. They did however bring in Wilfried Kanga on loan from Hertha Berlin this summer, but he is yet to hit the ground running in front of goal.

Two names cited by Witcoop as being on Cardiff’s radar are Go Ahead Eagles’ Swedish international Victor Edvardsen and Besiktas striker Jackson Muleka, but other players are reportedly being considered. With both players said to be courting interest from across Europe, the Bluebirds will have to act quickly to secure either signature.

Both players would add experience to Cardiff’s front line, as well as top-flight nous. DR Congo international Muleka has a decent, if unremarkable, record in Europe, as well as a strong pedigree in his home country and for his national team. Swede Edvardsen is fairly similar, with a great record in the Swedish lower divisions and having made his international debut last year alongside a move to the Eredivisie.

It’s been a poor start to the season at the Cardiff City Stadium, and reinforcements look to be necessary if the club want to kickstart their campaign any time soon. The South Wales outfit are currently winless in the Championship after poor performances against Sunderland and Burnley and have yet to score a league goal. Lying bottom of the table after two games, it’s clear something needs to change, and a new signing may do just that.

Writer’s View

Cardiff have endured a difficult start to the season, despite a win in the Carabao Cup, and the forward line seems to be in dire need of additions with the club goalless in the league. It’s encouraging that the club have recognised this after years of transfer troubles, but any deal must be the right one. Both Edvardsen and Muleka, as mentioned are strong names, but a deal needs to be done as soon as possible. As for who would suit better, Edvardsen looks to have the physique for the Championship whereas Muleka suits the club’s style of play; for that reason the latter may be the wiser choice.
