‘Embarrassing’ – Plenty of Sheffield Wednesday Fans React To Sunderland Defeat

Sheffield Wednesday got off to a dream start last weekend, putting four past Plymouth Arygle.

Sadly, they were brought down to earth this weekend with a humbling defeat at the Stadium of Light. A slick Sunderland outfit did to them what they did to Wayne Rooney’s side a week ago, and while it left them on even goal difference, it means Danny Rohl has to pick his side up in time for next weekend.

The Black Cats were ruthless in the first half, bagging three inside the opening 24 minutes. The first came from a smart set-piece routine that was finished off by the head of Dennis Cirkin.

Eliezer Mayenda doubled the host’s lead just four minutes later as the Owls were caught out overplaying in defence. The third drew the ire of travelling supporters, with Josh Windass needlessly playing Luke O’Nien, allowing him to snatch a third.

It could have been much worse, with James Beadle crucial in keeping the score down before half time. However, he couldn’t do much with their fourth. Mayenda grabbed his brace after some wonderful work by Jack Clarke.

The home side now have maximum points, but for the Owls, it is time to reflect. Were Plymouth just really bad last weekend? Or are Sunderland just really good? What can they glean from the result?

These supporters have had a chance to have their say on X, and a handful are concerned.
