Leeds United have agreed to sign winger Largie Ramazani from Spanish club Almeria, according to Fabrizio Romano on X.
The Championship side have reportedly agreed a fee in the region of £10 million for the x year old, with a 15% sell-on fee should the player be sold in the future.
The agreement brings an end to Leeds’ search for attacking reinforcements following this summer’s sale of last year’s talisman Crysencio Summerville to West Ham United. Ramazani is likely a direct replacement for the Dutchman as a right-footed player cutting in from the left, just like Summerville. They had previously been in the race for Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe, a player with a similar profile, but he now looks set for a move to Europe with French giants Marseille.
It remains to be seen whether they will strengthen further after reaching a deal for Ramazani, having been linked with a number of players across the forward line, and with current men such as Wilfried Gnonto touted for transfers. With many of the 2023/24 squad’s key figures leaving Elland Road for hefty fees this summer, the money is certainly there to be spent if Daniel Farke deems improvements necessary.
Belgian Ramazani has history in English football already, having been a part of Charlton Athletic’s academy having moved to the country as a child. He then moved to the youth setup of Leeds’ arch-rivals Manchester United but only made one appearance at Old Trafford, which will likely make the switch easier to accept for both sets of fans. The 23-year-old made the move to Spain in 2020 and has established himself as a key player for Almeria, scoring 22 times in 128 games, form which has caught the eye in Yorkshire.
Despite being installed by many as favourites for the Championship title after narrowly missing out last year, it’s been a disappointing start for the club. They’ve struggled having lost key men and are yet to win in the Championship this season, picking up two draws. With new signings looking to be on the way and gaps likely to be filled, many Leeds fans are still optimistic that they can succeed this season, but players like Ramazani will have to hit the ground running.
Writer’s View
It’s looking like Leeds have finally replaced one of their key men, and about time with two games of the season already done. Without finding someone to fill the gap lefy bu Summerville it’s hard to see how they go up, and form has shown that thus far. There’s room for improvement at Elland Road and Ramazani looks to be part of that plan. He’s got a fairly similar profile to his predecessor, so the squad won’t have to adapt much, and he clearly has the quality to get going immediately. On top of all this, he’s got plenty of sell-on value if successful, so it’s a deal that makes sense all-round.
