Hull City are the latest team to submit a £5 million bid for Bristol City attacker Tommy Conway, according to Bristol Live.
The 21-year-old has become hot property after it became public knowledge that the Robins were looking to cash in on their asset this summer. With just one year remaining on his current deal and no sign of fresh terms being agreed, manager Liam Manning confirmed last month that Conway was to train with the under-21 squad until a resolution was made:
“Tommy has had a contract offer on the table, which is an excellent offer,” he told Bristol Live. “This has been turned down, and not negotiated with the player expressing a desire to leave.
“The decision has been made for him to train with the U21s, with the focus wholly on players who are fully committed to what we are trying to achieve.
“We are hopeful of adding to our squad in the new future. It has been a positive few weeks with the squad and I am happy with how things are progressing. We are preparing for the pre-season friendlies, which will be a good test for the players.”
Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic had both been heavily linked with the striker, although his sudden availability has brought a raft of Championship clubs to the table.
Middlesbrough were the first to show their hand, whilst Burnley swiftly got in on the act shortly after. It was claimed that the Clarets were hoping to take advantage of City’s interest in Scott Twine by offering a swap deal which also includes defender Luke McNally.
With interest beginning to heat up, Hull have sensed an opportunity of their own and have today made a concrete offer to their league rivals. It is claimed that an offer of £5 million has been made, although it is unclear how the structure of the bid is made up. Furthermore, the publication states that at least one other unnamed Championship club is also in the running.
The Tigers are in the market for a new talisman. They have already sanctioned the sales of the club’s two top goal scorers from last season, with Jaden Philogene rejoining Aston Villa and Ozan Tufan heading to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor. Replacing those goals will be a tough ask, which is where Conway comes in.
The Scotland international bagged 12 goals in all competitions last season and was also named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

This is fast becoming one of the transfer sagas of the summer in the EFL. Although Bristol City are restricted somewhat in their demands due to the attacker’s dwindling contract, the number of interested parties significantly strengthens their hand. £5 million is a big chunk of money, but Burnley’s swap deal may be one that interests them due to the involvement of Scott Twine.
The midfielder was a big hit at Ashton Gate during his loan spell in the second half of last season and the Robins could be keen to bring him back. However, just like Hull and Middlesbrough, the Clarets may be seen as a direct rival, with Liam Manning’s side also harbouring promotion ambitions. Therefore, a move to Celtic may be the club’s preferred option.
