Stoke City are keen to do a deal for 26-year-old Frenchman Jeremy Livolant, according to Darren Witcoop on X.
Livolant is currently a free agent after having his contract terminated at French side Bordeaux, after the former Ligue 1 champions surrendered their professional licence due to financial issues. The Potters aren’t the only club interested in the attacker, with fellow Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday also looking to sign the player.
Former France under-19 international Livolant is a versatile forward player, having played in a number of positions. He is most at home, however, on the wing cutting in on his right foot but can also play in a central role.
Livolant is vastly experienced despite being only 26 and has spent his entire career in his homeland as he approaches the peak of his career. With one top-flight appearance to his name, he has spent the majority of his playing days thus far in the French lower leagues, with 202 appearances in Ligue 2.
The Frenchman came through the academy with Guingamp and went on to make over 100 appearances, having spent a large amount of time out on loan. Having broken into the team, a move to Bordeaux followed, where he made 42 appearances in one season with 13 goal contributions. Despite this good form, Livolant now finds himself without a club due to Bordeaux’s off-field problems.
Livolant is now being linked with a move to the bet365 Stadium as he tries to find himself a new team, with Stoke keen to make reinforcements with the new season just days away. The former Bordeaux man would be the club’s 11th signing of the summer as they look to move away from the bottom end of the Championship after a 17th place finish last season. Stoke fans will be hoping that if Livolant signs, he can drive them up the table as the Staffordshire club look to improve their fortunes.
Writer’s View
Stoke clearly aren’t content with struggling again after several poor seasons, and they’ve been extremely busy this summer in the transfer window. None of the signings thus far inspire any strong feelings, but Livolant could be the exception to that rule. He’s fairly young but with bags of experience, and a transfer feels like a no-brainer as he’s available on a free. This could be the move that gives Stoke more firepower going into the new campaign while also allowing Livolant to take his career in a different direction and really kick on.
