Sheffield United Eyeing Move For 25-Year-Old Attacker

Sheffield United are in the hunt for more attacking talent this summer and are eyeing a move for a forgotten man in the Premier League, according to the latest reports.

After losing 15 players during the transfer window through sales or expired contracts, the Blades are recovering nicely with some of their business. Initially, the South Yorkshire outfit acquired the services of fullback Sam McCallum from Norwich City and versatile midfielder Jamie Shackleton, who can also play as a right-back.

Later, Callum O’Hare moved to Bramall Lane as a free agent following his release from promotion rivals Coventry City which was certainly an astute piece of business by Chris Wilder’s side. His arrival was followed by Kieffer Moore who joined for a reported £2 million after helping Ipswich Town to return to the top-flight of English football last season for the first time in 22 years.

Furthermore, Harrison Burrows was the most recent signing for Sheffield United. The recently relegated club fought off tough competition for the former Peterborough United skipper, with the likes of Preston North End and Leeds United both said to be interested in the player in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, Wilder is not looking to stop there as he sets out to further bolster his forward department. While speaking to Nottingham Forest News, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Sheffield United are eyeing up a move for Nottingham Forest winger Josh Bowler, who recently scored in a pre-season victory for the Tricky Trees against Chesterfield.

Bowler signed for Forest following a successful spell in the Championship with Blackpool but has yet to make a senior appearance for the club after two years, although he did have loan stints at Olympiacos in Greece and with the Seasiders once more. Bailey has also claimed that another loan deal is likelier right now than a permanent deal.

Writer’s View

Bowler’s career has massively stagnated. During his early 20s, the attacker bagged 12 goals and recorded five assists in 71 appearances across his two seasons with Blackpool but hasn’t managed to replicate this form at any club.

He spent all of the previous campaign on loan at Cardiff City in England’s second tier and put up a solid return, scoring five goals in 39 appearances but he still didn’t put in the same level of performances that he managed to achieve in the past. Perhaps Sheffield United will be able to help him get his career back on track.
