Leeds United are in the market for a new left-back this summer and are set to hijack a bid for Peterborough United captain Harrison Burrows, according to the latest reports.
Burrows had a tremendous season at the Weston Homes Stadium last term, scoring seven goals and registering a whopping 16 assists in all competitions for the Posh despite Darren Ferguson’s side missing out on the play-off final following a semi-final defeat to Oxford United back in May.
As a result, the fullback has garnered interest in his services from clubs in the Championship. Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony revealed on talkSPORT this morning that he has accepted bids from several clubs already and that it is now down to the player to decide his next move. Although the Irishman didn’t explicitly name any suitors, he continued on to praise Leeds’ transfer business this summer and admitted that he looks forward to seeing Burrows “play in the Premier League”.
In the aftermath of these comments, The Boot Room have revealed that Leeds United are ready to hijack Sheffield United‘s bid for the player and have made a move for the 22-year-old, who is one of the youngest captains in the English Football League.
Alan Swann from the Peterborough Telegraph reported at the weekend that Burrows was closing in on a switch to Bramall Lane after the two parties agreed a fee of £3 million which includes significant add-ons for team and personal achievements.
However, both Preston North End and League One promotion-hopefuls Birmingham City have also been interested in the wide defender, although the latter’s keenness may have subsided following the arrival of Alex Cochrane from Heart of Midlothian for £1.3 million last week.

Reading between the lines of MacAnthony’s comments live on air this morning, Burrows could well be on his way to Elland Road. Nevertheless, the decision seems to be completely down to the player now as Leeds United have likely matched Sheffield United‘s £3 million offer.
Should the Englishman decide to move to West Yorkshire instead of the South, it is unclear what this would mean for Junior Firpo. The 27-year-old has just twelve months remaining on his contract with the Whites so perhaps the club will look to move him on this summer to make way for Burrows’ arrival.
