Major Leeds United Development Emerges Regarding £35 Million Deal

Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville is a wanted man this summer and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has just dropped an update on his future.

The Dutchman had a sensational season with the Whites in the previous campaign, scoring 21 goals and recording 10 assists in 49 appearances despite the club missing out on promotion to the Premier League following a play-off final defeat to Southampton.

As a result of the side failing to return to the top-flight, Summerville’s future was immediately cast into doubt. Several clubs in the Premier League are keen to sign the 22-year-old and the latest to make an official approach is West Ham United.

Romano has revealed that the Hammers have submitted an official proposal to Leeds United to try to bring the winger to the London Stadium and that talks recently took place between the club and Summerville’s representatives. However, Romano has stated that a deal is not close yet and that West Ham consider him too expensive at this stage. Additionally, European giants AS Roma have included Summerville on their list of targets this summer but only if the Giallorossi fail to sign Matias Soule from Juventus.

The Italian journalist reported some weeks ago that the West Yorkshire outfit have slapped a price tag of between £35-40 million on the player’s back following his superb displays at Elland Road last season. Brighton and Hove Albion led the race for his signature earlier in the transfer window but decided to drop out after negotiations reached an impasse.

Furthermore, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United are also said to be in the running to sign Summerville, while his name even cropped up during conversations between French champions Paris Saint-Germain and the agent of Lutsheral Geertruida earlier this month as both players share the same representative.

West Ham United being interested in signing Summerville makes a lot of sense for the club. Brazil international Lucas Paqueta will reportedly be allowed to play for the Hammers for most of next season despite his ongoing spot-fixing charges but the playmaker has been linked with a move abroad.

If Paqueta leaves East London before the transfer window closes next month, Julen Lopetegui will need to sign a replacement for him over on the left wing and Summerville may tick all these boxes. However, right now, Leeds United have outpriced many suitors.
