Leeds United Join Blackburn Rovers In Race For £1.7 Million-Rated Ace

Leeds United are looking for potential replacements for Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto this summer and have set their sights on a player in the division above, according to reports.

The Whites have had a busy transfer window so far, signing Joe Rodon permanently following a swap deal which saw Archie Gray move to Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, former goalkeeper Alex Cairns returned to the club and Bournemouth midfielder Joe Rothwell joined on loan for the season.

However, the West Yorkshire outfit have seen much more activity occur in the opposite direction. In an attempt to ease a £190 million debt, the club have offloaded the likes of Gray, Luis Sinisterra and Glen Kamara for massive fees, while Diego Llorente, Charlie Cresswell and Marc Roca have also departed from Elland Road.

Nevertheless, these won’t be the only players that leave the club this summer. There is an abundance of interest in Summerville from teams in the Premier League and abroad, including Chelsea and Ligue 1 side Rennes, who completed the signing of Kamara earlier this week.

Furthermore, Gnonto is also wanted by sides in the top-flight. Sean Dyche’s Everton have reportedly re-ignited their interest in the Italian forward and face competition from clubs like Lazio in Serie A who are also keeping tabs on his situation.

With losing both Summerville and Gnonto being a real possibility, Leeds United have started compiling a list of potential replacements to bolster Daniel Farke’s attacking department. The Daily Mail revealed on Friday that the Whites have turned their attention towards Crystal Palace‘s rising star Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who scored an incredible goal against his former loan club Charlton Athletic yesterday afternoon.

The 21-year-old has also piqued the interest of several other teams in the Championship. Journalist Alan Nixon revealed earlier this month that Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town are in the running for the player who boasts a market value of £1.7 million, as per Transfermarkt.

In the same report, The Daily Mail stated that Crystal Palace recently rejected a loan-to-buy offer from newly-promoted Premier League side Southampton for Rak-Sakyi, meaning the Eagles are not willing to allow him to leave permanently this summer.

This may suit Leeds United given the financial complications behind the scenes. Rak-Sakyi’s only experience in the EFL came at The Valley two seasons ago where he scored 15 goals and recorded eight assists in 43 appearances in League One. Perhaps the Englishman is the perfect player to replace someone like Summerville who was responsible for a large chunk of Leeds’ goals in the previous campaign.
