Queens Park Rangers Seal Agreement With Slovakian Defender

Queens Park Rangers have announced that they have sealed an agreement with Slovakian Under 19 international Casey Shann, who pens a new deal with the club.

The 20-year-old, who operates as a left-back, joined the Hoops in September and has been a regular in Paul Furlong’s Development Squad.

London-born, the youngster qualifies to play for Slovakia internationally through his mother and has featured for them up to the Under-19 level.

He explained he was delighted to extend his stay as he looks to kick on in the new season after injury curtailed the end of the last campaign.

“I am over the moon to extend my time here,” he said. “I had the injury setback but I am working hard to be back as soon as possible and pre-season is definitely the goal.

“I am back on the pitch now, I’m running and kicking footballs so I am getting closer all the time.”

The youngster came through the youth ranks with Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Sutton United. He didn’t break through at Gander Green Lane, but he impressed enough in their youth system to earn a move to Brighton and Hove Albion, where he appeared for their Under 21 side.

After that spell, he moved to Loftus Road, having earned international honours with Slovakia. He is also eligible to play for England and Jamaica, courtesy of his father.

“The Development Squad and Academy staff speak highly of the work that Casey was undertaking before his injury setback,” QPR CEO Christian Nourry said.

“With a myriad of new processes in place to support our athletes from a physical performance perspective, we are confident in being able to give Casey the opportunity to make up for lost time and impose himself.”

Shann will join four other players who are newcomers to the development squad, namely Rohan Vaughan, Kieran Morgan, Daniel Bennie and Jack McDowell

Shann certainly appears to have the credentials to kick on. He’s young, has had a good upbringing at Spurs and Brighton, and seems motivated to impress.

QPR have always had a good youth structure, and whilst he is moving away from being a promising youngster and getting to an age, he needs regular football, Shann can still benefit from being around Paul Furlong’s squad.

Perhaps the best course of action, once he’s fully fit, would be a loan spell in League Two or the National League to get some first-team action.
