Millwall Target Linked With £3 Million Move To European Trio

Millwall face tough competition for Leeds United centre-half Charlie Cresswell this summer as the defender has been garnering interest from clubs in Europe, according to the latest reports.

The 21-year-old spent all of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at The Den where he made 30 appearances in all competitions. Cresswell put in some impressive displays for the Lions as the London outfit finished merely one point behind the final play-off place.

Leeds United Keen To Beat Millwall To Signature Of £4 Million-Rated PL Star

Upon return to Leeds last summer, Cresswell’s future became unclear as the Whites secured the signing of Tottenham Hotspur central defender Joe Rodon on a season-long loan. The academy product fell out of favour at Elland Road under Daniel Farke and the manager even admitted that Cresswell would not be included in his plans until he was “mentally ready”.

As a result, the young centre-back played merely 495 minutes in total this season and it was widely reported during the winter transfer window that clubs in the Championship were eyeing up a move for Creswell, including Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough. The Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that Leeds were holding out for £4-5 million for his signature, but a deal never came to fruition.

Now, journalist Alan Nixon has provided an update on Cresswell’s future, claiming that the European trio of French side Toulouse and German outfits Hannover and Hertha Berlin are keeping tabs on the defender’s situation in West Yorkshire. Furthermore, Nixon has stated that Leeds have dropped their asking price for Cresswell to £3 million ahead of the summer transfer window which opens on Friday.

It will be interesting to see if Millwall go back in for Cresswell now that Leeds have decided to drop his price to £3 million. He had a superb loan spell with the Lions last season and could be an important player for the club in the future should he make a return to The Den.

However, the Bermondsey-based club face tough competition for Cresswell’s services, particularly from Toulouse who played in the Europa League this season and will be playing in Ligue 1 in the next campaign. Cresswell may be interested in going abroad to ensure his career doesn’t stagnate.
