Hull City Faces Competition In £500,000 Striker Pursuit

Hull City were credited with an interest in Gambian striker Adama Sidibeh earlier this week, with Alan Nixon reporting it on his Patreon page (via Football League World).

The Tigers narrowly missed out on a play-off spot and will hope to add some firepower as they seek to return to the top flight for the first time since 2017. They’ve made some big changes recently, with Liam Rosenior leaving the club, and the Tigers’ hierachy are believed to see St Johnstone striker Sidibeh as an emerging talent.

They were never the only team in the hunt; Football Insider backed Derby, Middlesbrough and Burnley as having an interest in the striker, who is valued at £500,000 by his parent club. They purchased him for a nominal fee, and set the release clause as protection against a quick sale.

This morning, another name has joined that list, taking the potential suitors to five. Swansea City, who finished 14th in the Championship under Luke Williams, are now thought to be monitoring the players’ situation, as reported by Nixon (via The 72). Williams joined the Swans in January and found it a challenge to achieve consistency, but will be hoping for more in his first full season at the Liberty Stadium.

Sidibeh has had quite the rise to prominence, having joined the Scottish side from non-league Warrington Rylands. He only moved north of the border in January but has since been called up to represent Gambia and has bagged for his country, as well as scoring five goals that helped keep his side in the SPFL.

Now, a host of Championship sides are hoping he might have the goals to help push them towards the top six next season. Whether that is Hull, Swansea, or another side, remains to be seen.

Writer’s View

Sidibeh is living the dream. Just six months ago he must have been resigned to a life in the English non-league scene, but he’s suddenly hit the big time, playing against the likes of Rangers and Celtic, as well as representing his country.

He looks a decent prospect, and it proves there’s gold in the non-league scene, for those willing to look. The reports suggest the player has loyalty to Craig Levein, his manager, for taking him out of non-league football, but if a big Championship club comes calling, he’d be a fool not to take the plunge.
