Update Emerges In Ipswich Town’s Pursuit Of Former Lincoln City Loanee

Ipswich Town remain keen on Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth as they line up alternatives for Vaclav Hladky, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The 22-year-old has spent the season on loan with Championship outfit Swansea City, continuing his development throughout the EFL divisions. He has impressed during his stint with the Welsh outfit, prompting speculation that he could be set to be tested in the Premier League.

Rushworth secured a temporary move to the second tier after some eye-catching performances throughout the 2022/23 campaign with League One’s Lincoln City, having spent the previous season with Walsall in League Two. He was a big hit at the LNER Stadium, remaining an ever-present under then manager Mark Kennedy.

News of Ipswich’s interest in the shot-stopper emerged last week when Darren Witcoop reported that the Tractor Boys were monitoring his situation at the AMEX Stadium. After his success at Lincoln, he penned fresh terms with the Seagulls, tying him down until 2027.

As a result, it is unclear as to whether Brighton would consider a permanent sale. However, Nixon states that Kieran McKenna’s side are willing to explore a loan deal should a permanent transfer be off the cards.

The Premier League newcomers are exploring fresh options between the sticks, with the future of current number one Hladky up in the air. The 33-year-old nailed down the number one spot this season after previous first choice Christian Walton picked up an injury last summer. It was a position he didn’t relinquish, leading to a new contract being tabled after their promotion success.

It is still unclear as to whether the ex-Salford City player will commit his future to the club, meaning that Rushworth has emerged as the preferred option.

Writer’s View

After three seasons of regular first team football with Swansea, Lincoln and Walsall, Rushworth is unlikely to want to sit on Brighton’s bench next season. He is a highly rated goalkeeper who will surely attract interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League, especially those expected to finish in the bottom half.

The 22-year-old looks to have a bright future, something the Seagulls seemingly agree with after tying him down to a long-term contract last summer. Surely another loan spell looks the most likely option. A move to Portman Road would surely only materialise if Hladky decides his future lies elsewhere though.
